Akima Subsidiary Awarded $499 Million Contract for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Projects

Akima LLC, a provider of services to federal agencies, announced today that its subsidiary, Jade Creek Construction, has secured a significant contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Baltimore District. Valued at $499 million, the five-year contract encompasses design-build construction projects to modernise critical infrastructure across the Baltimore District.

Jade Creek Construction will play a key role in delivering various USACE modernization initiatives. This includes the construction of modern facilities and improvements to U.S. waterways, directly addressing the diverse infrastructure needs of the Baltimore District.

Broad Scope of Services

The contract covers a wide range of construction activities, including design-build and design-bid-build renovations and new construction projects. Additionally, it encompasses minor repairs, modifications, and alterations to existing buildings within the USACE Baltimore District’s area of responsibility.

The scope of works further includes:

  • Vertical construction
  • Mechanical, electrical, and fire protection systems (both internal and external)
  • Heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and architectural finishes
  • Concrete work
  • Plumbing and carpentry
  • Roofing and demolition
  • Geotechnical investigations
  • Infrastructure projects
  • Interior fit-up
  • Communication systems
  • Security and force protection projects

The USACE Baltimore District plays a critical role in safeguarding the nation, bolstering the U.S. economy, and mitigating disaster risks. This includes tasks like monitoring river water levels and regulating Corps-managed dams and reservoirs to minimise flood hazards. The USACE Baltimore District has also demonstrated a commitment to environmental responsibility, exemplified by their recent initiative to rehouse 50,000 bees discovered during a demolition project.
