APM appoints new volunteer delivery group to empower volunteers

The Association for Project Management (APM) has announced the formation of its new Volunteer Delivery Group (VDG). This dedicated group of volunteers brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to supporting and guiding fellow APM volunteers.

The VDG, previously known as the Volunteer Steering Group, takes a proactive approach to volunteer development. By providing guidance and support, the VDG aims to empower volunteers to achieve their personal goals while contributing significantly to APM’s overall strategy. The introduction of the VDG coincides with APM’s rollout of a new and enhanced volunteer offering launched earlier in 2024.

The VDG will play a crucial role in several areas, including:

  • Delivery of Volunteer Outputs: The VDG will oversee the successful delivery of projects and initiatives undertaken by APM volunteers.
  • Task and Finish Groups: They will provide support and guidance to volunteers participating in Task and Finish Groups, which focus on specific project-oriented activities.
  • Key Volunteer Role Appointments: The VDG will be involved in identifying and appointing suitable volunteers for critical roles within the wider APM volunteer network.

Meet the VDG Team

The VDG comprises a dedicated group of volunteers and APM staff members, each bringing valuable expertise and perspectives.

  • Sorrel Gilbert (VDG Chair, APM Board Member)

“This is a tremendously exciting time for APM’s volunteer program,” says Sorrel Gilbert, VDG Chair and APM Board Member. “I’m passionate about change initiatives, and with my volunteer experience, I’m confident I can contribute significantly to refreshing the volunteer program and ensuring a robust volunteering strategy.”

  • Volunteer Members:
    • Mary Barber ChPP, FAPM, APM Mentor: “I have worked in projects for years and recognise the value that the profession offers.  Now that I am partially retired, I spend time volunteering to use my skills to help others and felt that I would really value supporting the wider APM community in volunteering activities.”
    • Nigel Beecroft ChPP, MAPM, APM Programme Management Interest Network Deputy Lea: “Having previously undertaken a range of APM volunteering roles, I wanted to bring my experience to a wider and more strategic level, helping APM volunteering to become more focussed, effective, and far reaching. With the current transition of APM volunteering, this is an exciting opportunity to become involved in supporting fellow volunteers, through the VDG.”
    • Onyekachi Onuoha MAPM: “My interest in volunteering to sit on the VDG stems from my passion for supporting the coordination of APM volunteering initiatives and communities to give volunteers an unparalleled positive experience to be able to make more impact in APM and the wider project profession.”
    • Rhona Hawkins CHPP, FAPM, APM South Wales and West of England Regional Network Volunteer, APM Mentor: “I’m looking forward to supporting the volunteering community as we implement the new approaches.”
  • Larissa Flynn MAPM
  • APM Staff on VDG:
    • Manuela Impellizzeri Kemp, APM Head of Events and Volunteer Engagement
    • Sarah Slater, APM Senior Volunteering Manager

With the VDG’s guidance and support, APM volunteers are well-positioned to make a significant and lasting impact on the project management profession.
