Denver International Airport (DEN) has opened its much-anticipated new West Security Checkpoint, boasting 17 lanes equipped with advanced technology to expedite passenger screening. This marks the second phase of DEN’s $2.1 billion Great Hall Program, overseen by global design firm Stantec, which provided architectural, design, and construction administration services.
DEN, the third busiest airport in the US for 2023 with over 77 million passengers served, aims to significantly improve the travel experience with this state-of-the-art facility. The West Security Checkpoint features innovative technology designed to streamline the screening process, including:
- Simultaneous bin loading for multiple passengers
- Advanced systems allowing passengers to keep electronics and liquids in their bags during screening
- Automated bag diversion for prohibited items, ensuring uninterrupted flow for cleared luggage
- Larger, automatic bin returns to accommodate more belongings
- An expanded balcony on Level 5 for improved passenger circulation
- A triple escalator connecting Level 6 (screening) to the Level 4 train platform for quicker access
“Reaching this milestone with Phase 2 will transform the travelers’ experience through one of the country’s busiest travel hubs,” said Carl Hole, senior principal at Stantec. “The partnership we’ve created with Denver International Airport will help them fulfill their Vision 100 strategic plan to prepare the airport to serve 100 million passengers annually over the next five to eight years and beyond.”
