Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) is pleased to announce the expedited completion of the KLIA Aerotrain Replacement Project. This critical infrastructure upgrade, originally scheduled for completion by March 31, 2025, will now be finalized by January 31, 2025, two months ahead of the initial target date.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for MAHB and its commitment to enhancing passenger experience at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The project entails the delivery of three new, state-of-the-art Aerotrains, refurbishment of the existing two lines, and comprehensive testing to ensure the highest safety standards.
The expedited completion is a testament to the collaborative efforts of MAHB, project partners, and relevant authorities. Following a reassessment in January 2024, a new contract was awarded to a consortium led by ALSTOM, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the Aerotrain system, and IJMC-PESTECH JV, a reputable construction joint venture. This strategic partnership leveraged ALSTOM’s expertise and ensured continuity with the existing system, while IJMC-PESTECH JV brought their construction prowess to the project.
Acting Group Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Rastam Shahrom expressed appreciation for the patience of KLIA passengers during the airport’s many facilities upgrades, “This early project completion ahead of the original planned date, is a testament to our relentless commitment to improve passenger experience. This advancement not only addresses immediate operational needs but also strengthens KLIA’S position as a leading transport hub in the region by providing world-class service and infrastructure to our passengers.”
The arrival of the new Aerotrains from China is expected by the end of the third quarter of 2024 (Q324). Following their arrival, a rigorous commissioning process and safety testing will be conducted before the official launch of the new system.
MAHB remains committed to continuous improvement and investing in infrastructure upgrades that elevate KLIA’s position as a global aviation gateway. The completion of the KLIA Aerotrain Replacement Project reinforces this commitment and positions KLIA to deliver a superior travel experience for passengers in the years to come.
