Mace Wins Programme Management Partnership for Hong Kong MTR’s New Railway Expansion

MTR Corporation, the operator behind Hong Kong’s renowned public transport network, has appointed Mace as its Programme Management Partner (PMP) for the delivery of its new railway extension projects. This strategic partnership brings Mace’s global infrastructure expertise to Hong Kong, bolstering MTR’s project delivery capabilities.

Under the agreement, Mace will establish an integrated Project Management Office (PMO) for MTR’s Capital Works team. This PMO will streamline the implementation of project management functions and digital systems, aligning with MTR’s vision for digital transformation and optimized project delivery.

“We are honored to partner with MTR in delivering these critical railway extensions,” said Davendra Dabasia, CEO for Mace Consult. “This collaboration reflects MTR’s commitment to pushing boundaries and aligns perfectly with Mace’s mission of redefining complex program delivery.”

MTR’s existing railway network is a vital component of Hong Kong’s public transport system, facilitating approximately 4.45 million passenger journeys on weekdays with an impressive near-perfect punctuality record (99.9%). The new partnership aims to further enhance MTR’s Capital Works team’s PMO capabilities, enabling them to implement best-in-class practices in areas like Integrated Project Controls, digital services, and NEC contracting.

Mace brings a proven track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects in major economic hubs globally. Their portfolio includes work on the Peruvian reconstruction project, Metrolinx in Canada, and the Hudson Tunnel Project in New York. Additionally, they have experience managing complex transportation projects like the redevelopment of RLDA Ahmedabad Railway Station in India.

Davendra Dabasia, CEO for Mace Consult, said: “It is an honour to be working with MTR in delivering its new railway extension projects. Aligned with MTR’s vision of going beyond boundaries, Mace is redefining how complex programmes are being delivered.

“Our work with MTR started with strategic consultancy and has grown to enable Mace to work hand-in-hand with our client. With a world-class team that combines global project and programme management expertise and local industry knowledge, Mace is well positioned to support MTR in achieving its goals of enhancing connectivity and increasing opportunities for communities in Hong Kong.”

Carl Devlin, Capital Works Director of MTR Corporation said: “The MTR Capital Works team has been working relentlessly on the new railway projects that will enhance Hong Kong’s railway network and keep the city moving. I am looking forward to working with Mace and benefiting from their international capabilities and experience, as we deliver these projects.”

A global consultancy and construction expert, Mace has been operating in Asia Pacific for many years and established a presence in Hong Kong in 2005. This new partnership signifies a significant commitment to supporting MTR’s ambitious railway expansion plans.
